OB/GYN Residency Program

Wade Barton, MD, PharmD (He/Him)

University of Louisville School of Medicine

Biography

Why did you choose Brown/WIH Ob/Gyn?

Throughout the stressful interviewing season, Brown was the first (and only) place were I truly felt at peace. The residents, physicians, and staff I met during interview day were wholly interested in getting to know me as a person, which was a proverbial breath of fresh air. After the interview day, I could not stop thinking or talking about the amazing time I had at Brown and knew I had to become part of the program. The amazing training reputation and fellowship placement history are just an added bonus ☺.

What are your interests within OB/GYN?

Medical student education and exploring the unique pharmacodynamic and pharmacotherapeutic states encountered during pregnancy – I’m excited to see what I end up doing after exploring all the areas within our field.

What is your favorite thing to do in Providence or Rhode Island?

Tennis, enjoying the variety of restaurants in Providence and adjacent areas, taking time to drive out to the ocean and beaches, and spending time with my fabulous co-residents ☺

Where do you live?

Out in the Federal Hill area in a renovated factory.

One fun fact about you

I met the legendary Serena Williams during an exhibition tennis tournament. While we took a picture together, she told me I smelled “fabulous” – I’ve bought the same cologne ever since. I’m also mildly obsessed with my orange fluffy cat named Oliver.

One piece of advice for candidates

Don’t be afraid to reach out to programs if you’re truly interested and let them know – I did it with Brown, and look where I am ☺
