Kara Stoever, MD (She/Her)
Biography
Why did you choose Brown/WIH Ob/Gyn?
I chose to come to Brown because I believe that I learn, train, and take care of patients best when I am happy myself. The residents at Brown seemed to be some of the happiest on the interview trail! On my interview day, I had thoughtful conversations with my interviewers about medical education, trans* health, and termination access. Brown/WIH is an academic medical center with a diverse patient population and strong fellowship match rate. Plus, Providence is a lovely artsy and academic city in the Northeast!
What are your interests within OB/GYN?
I'm interested in exploring medical education, advancing reproductive justice, supporting aging women, and caring for trans* folks. Ultimately, I want to continue to grow into a provider who heals patients of all genders!
What is your favorite thing to do in Providence or Rhode Island?
I'm excited to explore Providence more during the next four years! So far, I'm excited to be close to beaches and green space, as well as the thriving restaurant scene (special shoutout to Seven Stars Bakery for delicious pastries and coffee!).
Where do you live?
I live in Wayland Square, close to Blackstone Park.
One fun fact about you
I love reading horoscopes and am learning to read tarot cards. I'm a Pisces!
One piece of advice for candidates
As stressful as interviewing can feel, it's an amazing opportunity to travel around the United States, visit new and familiar cities, and spend short amounts of time with friends and family. As to the decision-making process: listen to your heart, and try to enjoy the experience! There are a number of high-powered academic programs around the country, with relatively similar stats, so listen to your inner self's comfort with each program. Plus, your fellow interviewees may be your future co-interns and will be your future colleagues in the field -- so although interviews can be nerve-wracking, try to have fun getting to know other applicants!
