Julia Dexter, MD (She/Her)
Biography
Why did you choose WIH/Brown OB/GYN?
My biggest impression from my interview day was that the Brown/WIH curriculum seemed a nearly ideal fit for my interests, including the off-service rotations. I liked the idea of managing acuity in the ED, sick patients in the MICU, and having REI in the intern year. The amount of elective time is quite luxurious! The academic rigor and legacy of the institution was balanced against a very warm, down-to-earth culture and fabulous, kind, and fun residents. The pre-interview dinner hosted by a PGY-2 was the best of the whole season. Plus, Providence is an accessible and charming city.
What are your interests within OB/GYN?
I'm interested in family planning, gynecologic oncology, gender-affirming gynecology and LGBTQ+ care. Additionally, I am interested in understanding and dismantling health disparities and creating an anti-racist culture in healthcare.
What is your favorite thing to do in Providence or Rhode Island?
I love to go to the beach, spend time outdoors, explore the surrounding area, and eat and drink all the delicious things on offer!
Where do you live?
The Armory district on the west side.
One fun fact about you:
I love second-hand shopping and because of this I went to thrift stores all over the country during the interview season. One of my favorite sweatshirts came from a Goodwill in Indianapolis across the street from the rental car drop-off.
One piece of advice for candidates:
It is easier said than done, but on the interview trail, try to have fun and be proud of what you've done to get to this point. After all, you deserve to be!
