Fiona Miller, MD (She/Her)
Biography
Why did you choose WIH/Brown OB/GYN?
From my very first interactions with the program on a pre-application season info session, the vibes were pristine. This was confirmed on my interview day. I was struck by the warmth and humanism of everyone I spoke with, and inspired by the program's mission to train excellent clinicians who are committed to advocating for equity and justice in the field of OB-GYN. It was also clear to me how much the residents love, care for and support each other across all years of the program. I knew I would get incredible training here at Brown/WIH and make lifelong friends along the way – it felt like the right fit for me. And I was right!
What are your interests within OB/GYN?
Health equity and reproductive justice, abortion care, becoming the best ob-gyn generalist I can be :)
What is your favorite thing to do in Providence and/or Rhode Island?
A month into intern year, so far I have loved exploring the awesome food scene in Providence (plug for Amy's breakfast sandwiches!), getting to know the different neighborhoods, walking Blackstone Boulevard, and hanging out at India Point Park. I recently took a quick road trip to Newport and experienced my first Awful Awful (a ~delicious~ milkshake). I'm also obsessed with my 8-minute commute. I haven't made it to the beach yet, but that's still ahead!
Where do you live?
Mt. Hope neighborhood in Providence
One fun fact about you:
I am a lone Libra in a family of Leos – my wife and all 3 kids have birthdays in August!
One piece of advice for candidates:
Vibe it out and be yourself. Sounds cliché, but it's true. At the end of the day, every program has to train you as an OB-GYN to ACGME standards, so the particulars of call schedules and rotation sequencing doesn't really matter (at least in my opinion). What I believe is far more important is the depth of relationships and sense of belonging you will find with the people you're going to spend fourteen thousand hours with over the next four years – and that might just boil down to a gut feeling. Trust it <3
