OB/GYN Residency Program

Biography

Why did you choose WIH/Brown OB/GYN?

Truthfully, I had the hardest time picking a specialty. I recall loving almost every single rotation during my third year of medical school and found that I really didn’t want to give anything up. I found Ob/Gyn to be the perfect melting pot of inpatient medicine, outpatient medicine, and surgery. I think that often, the high acuity and fast paced medicine seen in obstetrics and gynecology is often juxtaposed with stillness, presence, and connection with patients - I was really drawn to that. Ultimately, I fell in love with the unique opportunity to be an advocate and safeguard for women both in and out of the hospital.

What are your interests within OB/GYN?

I’m keeping an open mind but I am most interested in Gyn/Onc. I really love the patient population, the intersection of medical and surgical problem solving, as well as the privilege of discussing goals of care/end of life with patients and their loved ones.  More broadly, I am interested in the intersection of health and social justice, medical education/mentorship, and community outreach and education. Finally, I am interested in working with Middle Eastern/North African patients to improve and increase their interactions with the healthcare system through culturally competent and evidence based community interventions.

What is your favorite thing to do in Providence and/or Rhode Island?

As a true Minnesotan, nothing makes me happier than being outside or on the water. There aren’t 10,000 lakes in Rhode Island, but having access to the ocean is the next best thing! I love going to Narragansett and Newport whenever I have free time.

Where do you live?

I live just outside of Federal Hill.

One fun fact about you:

I’ve never been to Taco Bell.

One piece of advice for candidates:

At the end of each interview I  wrote an “overall vibes” comment on the top of my notes sheet. I was surprised that when it came time to make my rank list, I referred to that more than I referred to the spreadsheet I had made with numerous details about each program. Trust your gut when it comes to your interview day ~vibes~
