Rudy Fernandez-Criado, MD (He/Him/El)
Biography
Why did you choose WIH/Brown OB/GYN?
I am not sure where to start! From the first virtual hangout with the residents prior to interview day to the second look, it was clearly evident the culture at WIH is like no other. The healthy academic learning environment is so special and there is so much support within the department. One of my biggest criteria for residency was culture and I have certainly made the best choice for me! There is such an emphasis for mental health which is unparalleled. It is truly one big family here at Brown and I am so incredibly humbled and grateful to be a part of it. Additionally, the surgical training is very strong, and the volume of patients prepares you very well to succeed after residency.
What are your interests within OB/GYN?
I am currently open to a variety of career paths. I did have an interest in MFM during my medical school time, but I will be keeping my options open!
What is your favorite thing to do in Providence and/or Rhode Island?
Being able to drive less than an hour away to get to the beach and the food is incredible! I am such a foodie and I get joy in being able to try new places. Also, coming from bigger cities, I am really starting to love the idea of having everything I need (including the hospital) within a 10-15 minute radius. :)
Where do you live?
I live in Rumford!
One fun fact about you:
I was close to being part of The Voice prior to medical school!
One piece of advice for candidates:
Truly trust that feeling after you finish the interview. You know why you feel it. Trust it. You have made it this far trusting your gut. It will not steer you wrong.
