OB/GYN Residency Program

Megan Smith, MD (She/Her)

Biography

Why did you choose WIH/Brown OB/GYN?

I chose Brown Ob/Gyn because of the opportunity to serve an incredibly diverse patient population in a region that allowed full access to Family Planning training and exposure. I also wanted a program that fostered a supportive environment between residents and faculty/staff.

What are your interests within OB/GYN?

While my mind isn’t entirely made up, top contenders are currently MFM or Family Planning. I absolutely love the complexity of high-risk Ob and also love being an advocate for our patient population and defending their reproductive rights. I am also very interested in women’s health on a global scale and am open to seeing how I can best incorporate this into a career.

What is your favorite thing to do in Providence and/or Rhode Island?

Going for walks along the river with my dog, heading to the nearest beach for sunset, or spending the weekend hiking up in MA or NH!

Where do you live?

I bought my home in East Providence at the beginning of residency

One fun fact about you:

Before residency started, I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro!

One piece of advice for candidates:

At the end of the day, choose a place where you, personally, can thrive. Regardless of reputation, prestige, or rankings, you need to find a place that supports you and your goals. Don’t get caught up in the opinions of others. You need to be mentally, emotionally, and physically well in order to best learn and grow as a doctor, so finding a residency program that prioritizes this is important!
